A whole new adventure begins at the Danish Motorcycle Museum
Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2026.
A great new museum opens that day at the Port of Stubbekøbing

The 24th season at the Danish Motorcycle Museum couldn’t get a better start. At the waterfront in Stubbekøbing, the newly renovated Museum opens at Dosseringen 3.
The premises in the former Library have been renovated with new podiums for the motorcycles, a new layout of the entire motorcycle collection and more news.

Group drive
True to tradition, the 2026 season will also be celebrated with an opening drive from Cementen in Nykøbing Falster. The drive starts on Maundy Thursday at 10:00, where several hundred motorcycles and vintage cars will roll out onto the Danish roads. All front wheels are directed towards Stubbekøbing and the Danish Motorcycle Museum at the port of Stubbekøbing.
Chairman Søren Groth Therkelsen is looking forward to opening the exhibition in the new premises and at the same time offering a major new acquisition on the motorcycle front.

A “REITWAGEN” has rolled into Stubbekøbing.
The museum has acquired a replica model of the world’s first motorcycle.
A Reitwagen – built in 1885 by the two German designers Gottlieb Daimler and William Maybach, they patented their petrol-powered “riding carriage” on August 29, 1885.
The original motorcycle burned in 1903, its frame was made of wood, which is why it went up in flames. Now there are only a few replica models left in the world. The Museum acquired one of these in December 2025 and it is now presented in the new Motorcycle Museum.

125 years of development of the motorcycle.
In a new exhibition, the Museum presents the development of motorcycles from 1900 to the present. Take a walk along the “common thread” and be surprised, amazed and impressed by the many innovative ideas that motorcycle designers have produced over the past 125 years.

The story of the battle between the Japanese and English motorcycle factories.
Judge for yourself why England lost the battle against Japan for the motorcycle market. The Museum tries to make the development between the two countries’ factories visible in the 1960s and 1970s. This is done through a display of models from both countries.

Denmark also built many motorcycles.
We present a collection of Danish-built motorcycles, from the “Eneste ene” and the “Danica” pace motorcycle used on the bike paths, to the many Nimbussers that came from the Fisker and Nielsen factory in Copenhagen.

The story of the 4-cylinder in-line engine.
At the Motorcycle Museum, the story of the development of the 4-cylinder in-line engine unfolds.
From the FN motorcycle in Belgium, to ACE, Pierce Arrow and Henderson in the USA, and our domestic Nimbus “Kakkelovnsrør” and “Bumblebee”.

The battle between Harley-Davidson and Indian
Get the story of the two brands’ battle for the motorcycle market in the USA. Through the Museum’s many models, we illustrate the story of the battle of the two giants in the first half of the 20th century.
