History

Master painter Erik Nielsen, who lived in Karleby on Falster, decided in 1976 to donate his entire fantastic collection of old motorcycles to the municipality of Stubbekøbing, in exchange for the provision of suitable premises.
Therefore, in 1977, the municipality was in the fortunate position of being able to inaugurate the Stubbekøbing Motorcycle Museum. In 1983, the museum was expanded with a large collection of rare, old radios, speakers, gramophones, televisions, etc., provided by Benny Ahlburg. In recent years, the museum has increased its unique collection from 80 to 250 motorcycles, of which 170 are exhibited continuously. In addition, there are changing exhibitions with loaned models of special motorcycles. A large collection of loose motorcycle engines, which show the development of engines up through the 1900s, is also on display.
In 2026, the Danish Motorcycle Museum will move into completely new surroundings in Stubbekøbing.
At the harbor in Stubbekøbing, the Museum is moving into the former library and increasing the exhibition area by 300m2, as well as establishing a completely new display of the models and several exciting facilities for the whole family.
